Preventing constipation?

edited May 2016 in Cat Health
My oldest cat (19) just got out. Last time she ate grass she got really constipated. She was fine after a few hours. I'd rather her not go though that again. She got out through a door that a guest had left open and we didn't notice. She was probably out for a good 10 minutes and she loves to eat plants whenever she can. She is a strictly indoor cat and has always been her entire life. Anything I can do as a preventative?

You could try a commercial hairball remedy, which is supposed to help everything pass through. :r

You can add some plain psyllium husk or slippery elm powder added to her food. Both contain fiber which should help things along.
