Nursing cat tolerates ferret. Why?

My cat normally hates my ferret. Now that she's nursing kittens she tolerates him. She even lets him crawl on top of her and her kittens (even while they are drinking from her), sleep next to her, eat from her food bowl (while she's eating) etc. I want to know why now? Shouldn't she be even more wary of him now that she has kittens to protect? This happened the last time she had kittens too. Once her kittens stopped nursing and were more mature she started hating my ferret again.
