Hi folks, I've tried just about everything so I thought maybe cat owners would have an answer!
I have two kitties, they're 9 & 8, mom and daughter, both around 13 lbs, one long hair one short hair. Since they've been adults they puke. A lot. I feed them a bit of wet food in the morning, about half a teaspoon each because they crave it, (Friskies Elegant Medleys, but I've tried dozens of brands and types), I don't think this is a factor due to the teeny amount that it is, I've also tried not giving them this and it still happens.
For their dry food, I've also tried dozens, but have settled on Hills Science Diet, they're on the Mature Adult Indoor type. I've tried the sensitive stomach version, the hairball control, many brands. Nothing is helping. It's been happening for years. In this time they've had 3 vets due to moving and they all say the same thing mainly..get the Hills Science Diet.
To be icky, the vomit is normally solids, some partially digested. I feed them only when their bowl is empty, which is usually twice a day, they get 1/2 cup both times. (each cat would be eating 1/2 c probably). This leads to me to believe that they're gorging, and then it hits their tummy and expands and then they puke..which is awful cause then they're hungry again..and it's robbing them of nutrients, etc.
I'm just at a loss as to what I'm doing wrong. I had them to the vet this past weekend and discussed what was going on and the vet said to cut back the food a bit (I only feed them when their bowl is empty and they're crying
But other than that, they're perfectly fine. He checked them out, shots are up to date, litterbox is fine, and #1's and #2's are normal.
I've tried lots of tactics too, like spreading the kibble around on a 11x17 mat, so they're working for it a bit, not scarfing. After 2 weeks of that it's puke as usual..it's pretty much a daily basis..one or the other will puke. They're not in a high traffic or stress area...it's down in the basement..they're alone down there with nobody to bother them, plenty of fresh water, I see them drinking all the time.
So are they just gluttonous? Does anybody out there have a cat like this, and if you think it's food related, did you ever come across a brand that didn't make them vomit? I love my babies and I want to do right by them but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! Thx for any advice in advance!
