Dear Catster reader,

Almost two years ago, we invested numerous resources and rebuilt the Catster community. With new hardware, software and personnel, we did our best to satisfy the many users who shared their thoughts, pictures, questions, and love for and of their pets with us and friends. It was a thriving community with many users. We hoped, however, there would be more like you.

Times and habits have changed and we are sad to announce that the Catster community will be closing down on July 20, 2019.

Catster magazine, and the associated social media sites are NOT shutting down. We encourage you to continue reading the content found in the pages of the magazine and the web sites, commenting through the mechanisms provided and sharing your ideas and comments with us and your fellow readers.

Instructions for accessing pet profiles were shared with everyone in 2017. The instructions can be found elsewhere within the forum. AFTER JULY 20TH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS CONTENT. And, effective immediately, we are no longer able to answer questions about the community.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you through our magazine and website.

Shredded Chicken options

edited 4 August, 2010 in Food & Nutrition
I just found that my cats LOVE shredded food options. They do not like chunks. But shredded is a huge hit. Does anyone have some healthy options I could try and are reasonably priced? If any of you need an example (and have tried it) they LOVE the Soulistic Good Karma Chicken from Petco.

When I first got Hunter my parents bought him fancy feast appetizers. It was shredded chicken in some sort of broth. Hunter doesn't like chunky/shredded anything. He is more of a Pate boy! :)) I don't know how heathly it is, nor the cost. Its something to look into though. :D

If you can find Weruva canned cat food in your area, I would try that.

Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken is good, It looks like Some of the other varieties are shredded, too. Avoderm Select Cuts, The Avoderm web site is but they recently changed the site and I can't find the Select Cuts line. The chicken one is in a gloppy strange smelling pink colored gravy :? Fancy Feast Appetizers is another one but is a supplemental food only, not a complete diet. Feed only as a treat/snack once in awhile. Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys has some shredded varieties. These are a complete diet. Friskies has a few shredded varieties.

If you can find Weruva, I bet your kitty will LOVE it! Paw-licking chicken -- shredded chicken :-) Almost all the varieties of non-seafood Weruva feature shredded meats, sometimes with extra things added -- Peking Ducken -- Shredded chicken and chunks of duck & veggies On a Cat Wok -- Shredded chicken and beef with asian-style veggies & brown rice (not grain free, but my kitty ADORES this one so I let her splurge a bit :p) Grandma's Chicken Soup -- shredded chicken in a chicken broth with veggies Steak Frites -- shredded beef with veg Nine Livers -- shredded chicken with delicate morsels of liver My kitty also prefers shredded/stew style meats rather than pate or chunked/flaked. Before we found Weruva, the only thing she would eat was Spot's Stew Salmon Dinner canned since the meat is pretty much just slivers rather than chunks and mostly liquid. Since your kitties don't like chunks, I'm sure you are nervous about the varieties that have chunks of liver/veg in them. What we found with Miss P is that she picks out the shredded meats first and then eventually works her way to eating the chunks of meat/veg. Since the chunks are small and the "tasty" morsels (liver, etc), she overcame her dislike of chunky foods to eat the mixed shredded/chunk varieties in their entirety. FancyFeast Appetizers are the only other varieties I've found that have shredded meats rather than chunk/pate/flake -- but they aren't complete meals!
