Nursing mom and spaying

Our cat Little Bear has three twelve week old kittens. We want to get her spayed, but she is still nursing them twice maybe three times a day. Is it too soon to spay her? Would it be safe at this point? Or should we wait until they are sixteen weeks when we plan to spay and neuter the kittens and do her at the same time? I have been trying to find an answer but no one seems to have one. Thanks, Susan Field

It's Queenie. Little Bear is a VERY attentive momcat! Ours cut us off after about 5 weeks and she disappeared when we were about ten weeks old. We don't have much experience with that, but none of the cats our person or her family had were nursed that long. It's probably good for them, and we can't think of a way to stop her. A sad quandary, for sure. Good luck with that!
