My cat keeps peering on the bed!! Why?

He's too young to be territorial and we don't have any other animals. We cleaned the mattress and threw out the sheets but he did it again. He uses the litterbox just fine and he's very well adjusted to us. The super weird part though is that he only pees on Dave's side of the bed; but out of the two of us Dave is obviously his favorite. He doesn't have any health issues although he did get treated for a respiratory infection when we first got him a couple of months ago and he doesn't have any symptoms for anything like a UTI. I'm so confused. And tired of buying new sheets. We keep him locked out of the bedroom at night because I have no idea what to do.

Kittens are born territorial and just develop a greater sense of territory as they mature. Also, if your kitten's urine was not specifically tested for a UTI, he could have one. There are really no symptoms other than leaving puddles around the house. If he's not neutered, that should be your first course of action although male cats who mark their territory usually don't pee, they spray, and that's on walls, doors or rugs near doors. Make sure he has access to a litter box by placing one or two more around your home and keep them pristine. Litterboxes aren't very "Martha Stewart", but they're a necessity! They need to be in a quiet, private spot. (Mine are in the closet and if you keep them clean, they don't smell up your clothes.) It's possible that he can still smell the spot on your mattress since cats have acute senses of smell. Try getting a mattress protector. They make non-"crinkly" ones now--we have one. This will seal off the odor of his urine that may remain in the mattress
