Our cat vomits 3-4 times a day and has done this for years; vet says allergies

We have an almost 13 year old cat who started vomiting regularly a few years ago. It's always soon after eating and is either undigested or partially undigested food. Never hairballs or grass. It started off just once every few weeks, then gradually progressed over the years to every day. We've taken him to our vet many, many times over the years and they can't find anything wrong. They've done blood tests, but we haven't been able to afford things like ultrasounds or x-rays. The vet insists it's allergies. We've tried every food out there over the years but nothing changes. Steroid shots help reduce the vomiting, but after about 3 weeks it comes back with a vengeance. He's currently vomiting 3-4 times every single day. The vet just wants to keep giving him allergy shots, but they're $100 each time and need to be done every 3-4 weeks! And they don't even stop the vomiting, they just decrease the frequency. Is our vet right or is it time to find a new vet?

I don't think it would hurt to get another opinion, but the new vet might want to redo some of the tests, so I'm not sure how cost-effective it would be, but might give you some peace of mind. So sorry you're going through this!

This sounds pretty serious. I'm by no means an expert, but that "solution" from your vet is also triggering my suspicion. If you can swing it financially, it sounds like it may be worth getting a second opinion. If you can find a vet that specializes in cats specifically, that might be best.
