Mowmy and I are very sad about the big cats -- lions and Bengal tigers--killed in Ohio yesterday, along will all the other animals who were shot by law enforcement when their troubled "owner" set them free from his so-called sanctuary before killing himself.
We are also angry because Ohio has long had laws that let irresponsible people keep all kinds of wild animals as if they could be pets--not domestic kitties like me, but endangered species and even the rarest of rare cats, my distant cousins, the unbelievably beautiful Bengal Tigers. Eighteen Bengal Tigers died yesterday and we understand there are only about 2,000 left in the world today.
Honestly, we don't know if the police HAD to kill them or could have tried harder to find another solution. But we are very sure that the man who had bought them should not have been allowed to do so in the first place. He was not even taking care of them properly and Ohio law was just fine with that.
We think Ohio should have better laws controlling ownership and care of wild animals--then they would not have had to face the decision to slaughter so many.
