Dear Catster reader,

Almost two years ago, we invested numerous resources and rebuilt the Catster community. With new hardware, software and personnel, we did our best to satisfy the many users who shared their thoughts, pictures, questions, and love for and of their pets with us and friends. It was a thriving community with many users. We hoped, however, there would be more like you.

Times and habits have changed and we are sad to announce that the Catster community will be closing down on July 20, 2019.

Catster magazine, www.catster.com and the associated social media sites are NOT shutting down. We encourage you to continue reading the content found in the pages of the magazine and the web sites, commenting through the mechanisms provided and sharing your ideas and comments with us and your fellow readers.

Instructions for accessing pet profiles were shared with everyone in 2017. The instructions can be found elsewhere within the forum. AFTER JULY 20TH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS CONTENT. And, effective immediately, we are no longer able to answer questions about the community.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you through our magazine and website.

Cheers,
Catster

    It depends...mom usually gives us 'nip as a reward after we submit to something like nail clipping. It definitely makes that a lot more pleasant! We get our claws clipped roughly every 2-3 weeks. Other than that, we get it just once in a while. During the summer we get it more often because it grows wild outside our place and mom picks it and gives it to us fresh. During the winter, we have to make do with the dry stuff. I guess it probably averages out to about once a week, though mom might give it to us more often if she didn't have to be pusing the carpet-sucking monster around all the time to clean up the leftovers. ;)

    It is safe to give daily. I get it whenever mom decides to remember to give it to me :}

    We have a catnip banana that we both LOVE! Mom tried other kinds of catnip but we didn't even react.When she brought the banana home we both freaked out and rubbed against it and bunny kicked it for a long time. So we get to play with it every couple of day's. if it stay's on the floor we forget about it so mom decided it's better a a reward/treat than a all the time toy ;)

    You can buy catnip seeds from various sources (gardening stores, seed catalogs, pet stores, etc) and grow them at home, either in a pot with regular non-fertlizer potting soil and plain water or outside in the garden. An easier way to is to buy a catnip plant from the pet store and replant it into a big pot. The plant will grow bigger in a short time.

    Another fun item like catnip is Valerian root that we kitties love. I'm not sure how widely available it is, but mom found this out by accident. She was looking for some herb or natural remedy that would help her sleep and destress at night, and the vitamin store recommended valerian root tea. When mom made it, I got my "catnip" look on my face and tried sticking my face in the hot tea! She googled it and found out that VR makes cats go crazy like catnip! Also, she noticed that some teas that claim to destress also contain catnip like Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer! Guess what makes kitties hyper and crazy can calm the humans!

    I have lots of catnip toys I can play with any time I want. But once or twice (or sometimes 3x) a week, Mommy sprinkles some of the good stuff on my Turbo Scratcher, and that's loads of fun to play with, especially on a catnip high!

    I am not allowed to have catnip. I am usually so kind and sweet, but catnip makes me possessive and aggressive. I growl and that is not like me at all. :r:r:r:r:r:((:((:((:((:((:((
