This could quite possible be a UTI. urinary track infection. DO NOT WAIT. Take her to the vet. Vert much discomfort. Kind of like us woman, it plain old hurts. Reasons unknown we think they pee outside the litter box because the cats figure they cant pee inside because they either cant pee because little or none comes out or it hurts so they will try different means and see if it helps. True... Please take her in immediately. ALSO COULD BE DIABETES ONSET.

Going to the vet is your first order of business. Let the vet decide what may or may not be wrong. Harvard just got a UTI last week, and in his case, he had blood in his urine and was urinating frequently, a sure sign of a UTI. I went to the vet and got meds (just in case; many UTIs are of no known cause), and he does seem to be getting better. My vet said that in the winter, the air is dry and cats don't get overheated the way they do in the summer, so they can easily get dehydrated, which can lead to a UTI. Making sure that your cat is drinking lots of water is important. You could try a cat water fountain, or wet food, to which you can add water or low-sodium chicken stock to make a slurry.

You need to take your cat to the vet IMMEDIATELY! This is not a sign of a UTI, but something worse. A trip to the vet or an emergency clinic is urgent if your cat has dark urine. Please get her prompt medical attention. Prayers and purrs that kitty is on the road to a speedy recovery in no time.
