Unfortunately, even altered cats do spray, both males and females. It's malodorous, dirty and ruins clothing, carpeting and furniture. First, have Cosmo's urine tested at the vet's to make sure he doesn't have a bladder infection. Put out more litter boxes and keep them pristine. Put them in private places so he's not disturbed when using them. You may want to have a carpet cleaning professional come out and do your rugs, or professional house cleaners to use their products to clean up the spray marks. It's very difficult to completely get rid of the scent and if Cosmo smells it, he will return. Make very sure nothing is stressing him out, like a stray in the yard. Research your recent home life. New pet? New child? Visitors or workmen? Anyone teasing him? Your vet can also help you figure this out. If his spraying really is extreme, you can try Feliway plug-in's, but people have limited success with those. You vet can also try a short course of anti-anxiety meds.
