Dear Catster reader,

Almost two years ago, we invested numerous resources and rebuilt the Catster community. With new hardware, software and personnel, we did our best to satisfy the many users who shared their thoughts, pictures, questions, and love for and of their pets with us and friends. It was a thriving community with many users. We hoped, however, there would be more like you.

Times and habits have changed and we are sad to announce that the Catster community will be closing down on July 20, 2019.

Catster magazine, www.catster.com and the associated social media sites are NOT shutting down. We encourage you to continue reading the content found in the pages of the magazine and the web sites, commenting through the mechanisms provided and sharing your ideas and comments with us and your fellow readers.

Instructions for accessing pet profiles were shared with everyone in 2017. The instructions can be found elsewhere within the forum. AFTER JULY 20TH, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS CONTENT. And, effective immediately, we are no longer able to answer questions about the community.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to serving you through our magazine and website.

Cheers,
Catster

changing tastes??

Hey Pawrents, Mom here and I have an odd question. I was feeding my critters meow mix about a year ago until I became educated about ingredients in cat food and the whole 'what-not'. I spent hours in all the stores researching and reading labels and we settled on Blue Buffalo. I was thrilled because all 4 cats liked it and it was good for them. I have noticed over the last few weeks Pepper and Winter have been asking for a lot more treats. A LOT more... and it seems they have been eating less and less of the BB. I have not been giving them more treats even though they sit at the cabinet and howl for them... its not good for them to have lots, but I still see them snubbing the BB. Has anyone experienced having a cats whose tastes have changed? Could it be that the recipe was changed? I know the food is fresh - we just bought a brand new bag so I'm kinda at a loss...

Cats go through phases of what they like and what they don't try a different flavor of the food if it's available or try switching brands some recommend kitties switch brands every 6 months to keep them interested but it depends on your kitties!

I hope you can first rule out possible medical issues for their lack of appetite. But if you have: I definitely have changing tastes... Back in the pre-recall days, I went from Pet Promise to Natural Balance to Nature's Variety kibble. And I HATED wet food. Since then, I've started to tire a bit of Nature's Variety kibble and have developed more of a hankering for Timberwolf Serengeti and Evo kibbles. Also, while I still hate most wet food, I will now eat Solid Gold Blended Tuna. _I_ don't think anything is wrong with that!

My first thought was that they were sick because its not like these two to snub food... but they seem fine. Active and happy as ever. No fevers either. I do see them eating the food once in a while, but I see them eating less of it and begging for more other food (i.e. people food, canned food, treats...) When I give them canned food they gobble it down like mad cats. I can also tell they are not eating as much kibble because the food bowl is not being emptied as quickly as usual. I think I will just try something else and see how they like it...
